Memento Mori

One girl's adventures in gaming.

Tag Archives: General

So, it’s been quite a while since I’ve updated this. In fact, I will admit that I practically forgot about this until recently but I think it’s time to start back up again. I hate to sound cliché and emo about this but I am going through a very difficult time in my life at the moment. I’ve recently lost someone very important in my life and I’m at the point where it hurts to just continue going on with daily activities. It feels odd to go back to school and carry on like nothing has happened but in the end you just need to start again and continue.

And what does this have to do with this blog that’s supposed to be about gaming?

Well, the person I lost was my cousin Jerry. I am an only child but it never felt that way because Jerry (and his sister Jackie) were always there with me. Both were more than cousins though, they were the brother and sister I could play with and look up to. As kids, we were pretty much inseparable and shared many of the same interests.

One of those interests was gaming.

I will never forget the first time my uncle set up a PC in his office and showed us kids how it worked or the first time he loaded up Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles so that we could play. After that first time our little fingers touched the keyboard that was it. From then on we lost ourselves in several DOS games like Commander Keen, Jill of the Jungle, Wolfenstein 3D, and Doom (yep, can you imagine two little kids playing that? It happened and we both turned out OK. Well, kinda :-= ). And it didn’t stop there.

I’ll admit that I believed I would get over gaming when I was older (my mom did too, in fact she prayed that I would. Sorry, Mom.) but it didn’t happen. When I received my very own PC, the first game I installed was Warcraft: Orcs and Humans and Tomb Raider- all while rushing over to my cousin’s house to try out the latest game my uncle had bought.

Even as we got older and each grew busy with college and…life, there was always a little time to chit-chat briefly about what we were currently playing.

And so, in order to help myself and in honor of him, I want to continue writing here about all my gaming endeavors. After all this I thought about quitting gaming for good and just put it past me but I don’t think I could and I don’t believe he would want me to.

Plus, there is a shitload of good games coming out soon.

Hope you stay along for the ride. More frequent updates and a new layout will come.

And thank you, Jerry. Always. I miss you, bro.
